PAX Grinder

PAX designed the grinder as a 3-piece without a kief catcher intentionally, primarily because PAX dry herb vaporizers are not recommended for use with concentrated kief directly in the vaporizer chamber. Kief can melt and gum up the heating elements and chamber screens of dry herb vaporizers, requiring more frequent cleaning and potentially degrading the heating system over time. By using a 3-piece design that keeps all ground herb together, PAX ensures users load a consistent mix of ground flower into their vaporizer rather than risking kief-only loads that could cause maintenance issues. For users who want kief collection alongside vaporizer use, a separate 4-piece grinder paired with a PAX vaporizer is a common alternative.

Squircle is a mathematical term for a shape that is intermediate between a square and a circle, sometimes described as a rounded square. The PAX Grinder uses this profile rather than the standard cylindrical shape of most aluminum grinders. The squircle provides a more ergonomic grip surface: the flat sides and rounded corners fit naturally in the palm, and the flat sides give the thumb and index finger more surface area to apply rotational torque than a smooth cylinder would. The squircle also prevents the grinder from rolling off flat surfaces, which is a common problem with cylindrical grinders on slightly angled or vibrating surfaces.

Standard grinders connect their chambers with helical threads that require multiple rotations to open and close and are prone to becoming stuck with resin buildup or developing cross-threading wear after extended use. The PAX Grinder uses magnetic closures on all chambers instead of threads, so each section pulls apart and snaps together with a single straight motion rather than a twisting screw action. This eliminates cross-threading permanently and means the chambers open and close faster than any threaded design. The magnetic force is strong enough to hold the chambers securely together during grinding and transport without any locking mechanism.

PAX designed the tooth geometry to produce a consistent medium output that works well in their own dry herb vaporizer chambers and across most other consumption methods including rolling, packing hand pipes, and loading one-hitters. The medium grind is not as fine as a single-direction sharp-toothed grinder on high rotation count would produce, and not as coarse as hand-breaking. It exposes adequate surface area for both conduction and convection vaporizer heating elements and distributes evenly in rolling paper for consistent burning.

Open all three chambers by pulling them apart — no unscrewing required due to the threadless magnetic closures. Tap out loose herb from each chamber and use a small brush to clear debris from the teeth and chamber walls. For a deeper clean, soak the aluminum components in isopropyl alcohol for 20 to 30 minutes, brush away dissolved resin, rinse with warm water, and dry completely before reassembling. The magnetic closures make reassembly fast. Wipe the magnet faces with a dry cloth to remove any herb particles before snapping the chambers back together.
