The 34% thickness increase in the Next Gen Premium plates produces a stiffer, heavier plate that resists deformation more effectively, maintains its precision hole sizing over a longer service life, and provides a slightly smoother milling motion due to the additional plate mass creating more consistent downward pressure during operation. Thicker plates also last longer before needing replacement, reducing the long-term cost per plate over the life of the grinder.

The 2.5-inch Mill Plates are compatible only with the Flower Mill 2.5-inch Next Gen Premium Grinder. They are not compatible with the 2.5-inch Next Gen Standard Grinder, which uses a different mounting system, nor with any Generation 1 (Gen 1) 2.5-inch Flower Mill models. The Next Gen Standard is the fixed-plate version that does not support plate swapping. Users should confirm they own the 2.5-inch Next Gen Premium specifically before purchasing these plates.

The #2 Fine plate is the most popular choice for rolling joints and filling pre-roll cones. A fine, uniform grind burns more evenly throughout the length of a joint or pre-roll because the herb density is consistent, which avoids the hot spots and canoeing caused by mixed-size pieces. The fine output also packs into cones more smoothly with fewer voids or air pockets. For machine-rolled joints or automated cone filling, the #2 Fine plate is the consistency most commonly cited by users as providing the best automated packing results.

Most Flower Mill users who want full versatility across consumption methods own two to four plates. A common starting setup is the #2 Fine (for rolling) and #1 Extra Fine (for vaporizers), which covers the two most consistency-sensitive use cases. Users who also regularly pack pipes add the #4 Coarse, and those who want maximum flexibility add the #5 Extra Coarse for occasions where minimal processing is preferred. Since plates are sold individually, users can build their plate collection one at a time based on which consistencies they actually use.

The 2.5-inch plate corresponds to the 2.5-inch Next Gen Premium Grinder, which has a larger grinding surface area and chamber than the 2-inch version. In practical terms, the larger plate processes more herb per milling session and accumulates kief faster through the larger pollen screen. The milling action and consistency output are functionally identical between the two plate sizes — the same #1 through #5 consistency system applies across both. Users choose the plate size based on which Next Gen Premium Grinder size they own.

Soak the stainless steel plate in isopropyl alcohol for 15 to 20 minutes. The stainless steel material is fully compatible with isopropyl alcohol and is not degraded by repeated cleaning soaks. Brush away dissolved resin with a small stiff brush, paying particular attention to the hole edges and the center rod area. Rinse with warm water and dry completely before reinstalling.
