Uwell Caliburn GK2 Pod Kit Review

The Caliburn GK2 pod kit is the new portable pod system from Uwell. Basically, it is the new KOKO series device of the Caliburn G2. Uwell Caliburn GK2 is an upgraded version of the KOKO Prime range. We have seen the Caliburn go through quite a few style and design changes over the years. First they introduced the stick/pen version i-e Caliburn A2 and then they came out with the Caliburn AK2. A few months later, the Caliburn G2 came out. The newest and perhaps the most exciting one is the Caliburn GK2. This device is very similar to AK2 and A2 in terms of functionality. Actually they have improved the design a lot and there is some sort of futuristic feel when taking a look at the GK2. It is a light-weight and nice looking portable device that vapes fantastic.

Overview and Built Features

Caliburn GK2 is primarily made out of plastic with a little use of Zinc alloy. This KOKO device has glass panels on the front and back. The front panel says KOKO and it lights up while the device is in use. On the bottom it has USBC charging port and small ventilation holes for the battery. The back panel of GK2 has ‘CALIBURN’ written on it with some beautiful design. These panels do not come off. This device also has a lanyard holder at the top edge.

UN2 Mesh Coils – Suitable for Lung Hits & MTL

Uwell Caliburn GK2 comes with their UN2 coils. The spare coil that comes in the kit is 0.8 resistance mesh coil rated for 13 to 18 watts. The coil pre-installed is 1.2 ohm rated for 9 to 13 watts and it is also a mesh coil. You can use 0.8 Ohm coil for restricted lung hits and you will get dense vapor with this. The other 1.2 Ohm coil works nicely for mouth to lung vaping.

Pro FOCS Pod Features – Compatible with G2 & Caliburn G

The kit comes with their new Pro FOCS pod. The pod of Uwell Caliburn GK2 is a top fill, that’s a cool feature. It can hold up to 2ml of e-liquid. The pod goes either way in the device, allowing you to put it freely without any worry. The coil goes at the bottom of the pod. The pod attaches magnetically to the device. Just take the pod and pop it in the device, you will hear a nice click when the pod attaches to the device. This pod is actually interchangeable with the Caliburn G2 as well as the Caliburn G. As the pod gets attached, the KOKO written on front of the device lights up. These lights also turn on when you pull the pod out. That’s basically your battery charge indicator. These lights look really cool in dark.

Filling the Pod of Uwell Caliburn GK2

You will have to remove the mouthpiece in order to expose the filling hole. Detaching the mouthpiece is really easy and you can do it by cracking it to a side. Actually you will see two holes once the mouthpiece is removed, the one covered with red membrane is your e-liquid filling port and the second small hole is for the air to escape. Just stick the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle in the filling port, puncturing the membrane and fill the pod. Put the mouthpiece back on after filling. It is better to let the pod rest for few minutes so that the coil is saturated properly. A brand new Caliburn GK2 is going to have a little blue sticker over the coil head, don’t forget to remove it before use. Basically, it is a safety feature so that you don’t accidently try and use it without e-liquid inside.

Priming the Coil and Proper Installation

It is recommended to prime the coil of GK2 before first use. Priming is easy, simply drop few drops of your favorite e-juice right down the center of the coil so that the cotton gets saturated nicely. While installing the coil match its flat part with the flat edge in the pod, push it down and make sure it seats in place. The coil won’t fit properly until both the flat parts correspond with each other i-e the flat part of the coil head and the flat part in the pod.

Adjustable Airflow Control

The GK2 pod has a small red wheel like switch right beside the coil. Basically, this is the airflow controller and you can adjust air intake through it. Working of this small airflow wheel might seem difficult but it is very easy. Simply turn the wheel and adjust according to your preference. As the pod is transparent, you can actually see a hole in the airflow wheel that controls and adjust the amount of air coming in. However, you may feel some difficulty spinning it if you have thinner nails.

E-Liquid Viewing Window and Air Intake Holes

This device has an e-liquid viewing window to let you monitor liquid level in the pod. It has two airflow holes, one small airflow hole just below the e-liquid window and the other right next to the pod on top. These holes allow air to come in from outside.

Draw Activation and Haptic Feedback

Caliburn GK2 is a draw activated device as there is no button in it. Once the pod is filled, just put it in the device and it is ready to use. Just inhale and you will see some lights that light up and these lights are indicating that it’s fully installed. The light in the panel shows your battery status and it changes color depending on your battery charge. You do have haptic feedback feature in GK2. The device vibrates when the pod attaches to it.

Battery Charge Indicator

The lights in the panel are also your battery charge indicator. For instance, when you are vaping if it’s green that means it’s around 60% or higher charge and if the light is blue that means it’s 30 to 60% charged. However, if it’s red then it is going to be lower than 30%.

Caliburn GK2 vs AK2 – Size Comparison

If you put it next to AK2 KOKO, you will notice that GK2 is much thicker device. Obviously because of the LED panels and a larger battery that it has. The GK2 is a bigger device all around. The pod of GK2 cannot be used in AK2 as the pod of AK2 is a disposable pod while the pod of GK2 is a replaceable coil pod.

Pros and Cons

Actually it is really hard to find any con on this amazing device. Though many users like LEDs and some fancy patterns of lights but there are few who want their devices more discreet in terms of lighting. Although it is a personal choice but it would have been a lot better if there was an option of turning these lights off. The device works great but the lights flashing while vaping is not really discreet. They have upgraded the battery in GK2 compared to the AK2 having 520 mAh battery. Type-C charging and 690 mAh battery is definitely a pro. Airflow control works great and the top filling is a big pro of this device. Uwell is well known for having the best top fills when it comes to pods. The GK2 has a lanyard to make carrying even more easy. You can hang it around the neck or you can attach it to a keychain. This device does not have any issues in terms of portability. You can easily carry it in your pocket or bag. It is an extremely portable device with a lot of potential packed in it.

Battery and Charging

Caliburn GK2 comes with an internal battery of 690 mAh. It takes approximately 30 – 40 minutes to fully charge. One fully charged battery can produce around 700 – 800 puffs. This device can easily give you full day of vaping depending upon your use.
